Biochemistry

Biochemistry is the language of Biology. The tools for research in all branches of Medical Sciences are based on Principles of Biochemistry. The Department of Biochemistry was established in 2014. Faculty members are involved in teaching basic and clinical Biochemistry to undergraduates, and in maintaining quality clinical diagnostic services as per the national standards.Undergraduate programmes include MBBS, BDS, B.Sc. Nursing, Physiotherapy and Paramedical health sciences. The Department of Biochemistry actively participates in design and implementation of the competence based undergraduate Medical education curriculum and also plays a leading role in coordination of Phase-I program for medical students. We employ innovative teaching learning methods to enable students to understand the biochemical pathways through an interactive approach.

The faculty areinvolved extensively in research activities related to basic, clinical and translational biomedical research. Students are encouraged to do ICMR-STS projects and guided by our faculty. Faculty members of the department have undergone training in laboratory quality management and internal audit as per ISO 15189. The aim of the department is to enable the students to comprehend the relevance of biochemistry in their fields. This will facilitate to apply the knowledge in achieving their professional goals. The clinical Biochemistry works round the clock and provides quality diagnostic services. The Biochemistry lab is participating in the proficiency testing programmes from Christian Medical College, Vellore.
