Pharmacology

Pharmacology is a dynamic branch of medicine involving the scientific study of effects of (drugs) medicines on living systems. It incorporates knowledge and skills from a number of basic science disciplines including Physiology, Biochemistry, Cellular & Molecular Biology. The Department of Pharmacology at GIMSR, was established in September 2015 and since then is actively involved in academics as well as research. The department has excellent teaching and research facilities with well equipped lecture galleries, demo rooms, Computer Assisted Laboratory for simulated studies of experimental pharmacology, clinical skills lab with mannequins, museum and research laboratory.

The ultimate aim of the department is to teach pharmacological and therapeutic concepts in the background of a strong foundation in basic sciences which would promote better understanding of the practice of rational use of drugs. The department also plays an important role in the activities of Institutional Ethics committee. The department is also involved in implementing Pharmacovigilance program of India (PvPI) and sensitizes the health care workers of the institution regularly to PvPI apart from providing regular drug safety alerts.

Research and collaborations

The department of pharmacology is involved in multidisciplinary & collaborative research and the momentous research areas are development of different nano hydro formulations like biodegradable gels, films, and sprays for diabetic and non-diabetic wounds of various forms. The department nurtures research qualities in medical undergraduates by motivating and guiding them for the ICMR - Short Term Studentship (STS) programs.
